This old guy pulled up next to me at work and we started chatting. He said he bought it because he was old and couldn’t do the crazy stuff anymore. Lol. $9k for a new 2018 MT10 from my local dealer sounds like quite the steal.
Don't worry, I'm not that crazy.

My buddy that left the manufacturer that makes the Yamaha MT10 with me bought one on his way out the door. He absolutely loves it.

MT-09s are awfully cheap too! 7k for a very powerful, naked triple.

That is likely what I'm going with. Or the xsr900 version

They are also quite ugly. Whenever I see one I just think “that must be a bitch to keep clean.”
You know you want that sweet triple action!
But Yamaha really does have an amazing lineup with the 7, 8, 9, and 10 series bikes.

If only Yamaha made good bikes currently. Much less ones that you could examine closely without wondering how come they are twice as expensive as they should be. In the esteemed opinion of someone who has never owned a bike that wasn’t a Yamaha.
If you haven’t ever watched the “Master of Torque” series this might be a good excuse.

I know they're great bikes, but they're probably my least favorite in their class based solely on the looks...

One of the parts guys at the dealership I worked at this past summer had one, said he bought it for the brakes and suspension, but that it’s wildly to fast.
I just want a duke 390 :(

They make some amazingly fun bikes. After riding various competitors from Asia, and t he Europeans, the MT 07 and 09 were either my favorite or tied. And at prices waaaaaay below the other guys. I certainly can’t comment on reliability or build quality, but I’ve heard nothing but good things from owners

Jesus. Are bikes in general a lot more up there? Or... Based on power? Yamaha in general?
These are technically $13k USD otd but Yamaha and their dealerships seem really cool about cutting some great deals

lol really? because there is so little margin in yamahas up here....
Bikes aren’t
more. but the exchange rate sucks. so that 13K OTD for you is 17.1K for us. Account for slightly higher taxes and there is you 18K OTD

The problem doesn’t solely exist with them. Many industries have shifted to a legal forward strategy which forces their top tier designers and engineers towards expected lifespan and beyond customer R&D. By which I mean the parts are made so cheaply (designed to fail) every aspect from warranted replacement through shipping of large containers and disposal/recycling fails to impact the bottom line. After a few million parts fail, and numerous further manufacturing ‘efficiency’ changes, they might re-examine a small innocuous improvement that improves the customer’s usage.
Until some dirtbag constructs another billion dollar lawsuit over a technicality almost impossible to disprove, much less occur in use, and the cycle starts afresh. So you get unfixable throttle cable designs and the like that have eliminated interest in the refreshed FZ/MT line for those who know and understand the forbidding nature of tuning these bikes.
